The frigate Peder Skram

The ships at Holmen

Step aboard one of the most powerful warships of the Cold War.
The Peder Skram was no ordinary ship. As the navy’s flagship during the Cold War, it was at the heart of the defence of Denmark and north-west Germany – armed with guns, missiles and torpedoes and ready for battle. Today, you can step aboard and experience what it was like to sail on the front line.

The day a missile destroyed Danish houses

On 6 September 1982, Peder Skram accidentally fired a Harpoon missile, which flew across Zealand and destroyed a handful of holiday homes – fortunately without any loss of life. This is one of the stories you’ll encounter on board: about technology, human error and the unpredictability of operating one of the world’s most advanced warships.

Where is the frigate today?

Peder Skram is owned by the National Museum of Denmark, but is moored at Holmen in Copenhagen as part of a unique collection of historic ships, operated by the Skibene på Holmen museum.
