Holbæk Harbour - Kanalstræde 23
It smells of timber here, and there’s always something going on. The shipyard in Holbæk invites you and everyone else to come and see traditional craftsmanship up close.
At the shipyard in Holbæk, we build and restore historic wooden ships using the same techniques that have kept Danish ships afloat for hundreds of years. Here you can watch the shipwrights at work, chat with them about their craft and see how a ship is built. The shipyard is open on weekdays from 8 am to 3 pm, and it’s free to drop by.

Fun and learning for the whole family
Bring the kids to the shipyard and let them explore the craft of shipbuilding through our small interactive exhibition. Here, the whole family can learn about shipbuilding, try their hand at using the tools and see the historic ships up close. It’s free, and there’s always something to see and do.

Next ship: Ruth
In the shipyard hall stands the sloop Ruth, built in Norway in 1854 and the only surviving Danish sloop in the world. Ruth is awaiting her turn for a comprehensive restoration, and when the work begins, you can follow the process up close. It is rare to witness craftsmanship of this calibre at work.
