Holbæk Harbour - The quay

36 metres of sailing history. The Bonavista is one of the last great Danish schooners still afloat.
From spring to autumn, the schooner Bonavista sails around Danish waters – from gatherings to parties and on trips you can book yourself. When you come on board, you can experience what it’s like to sail a ship from 1914.

1.

Come along

Bonavista takes families, school groups and companies on trips all over Denmark. You can buy a ticket for a public cruise, book a private trip or meet us at one of the major wooden ship gatherings. We need all hands on deck, but no prior experience is required.

2.

Denmark’s largest two-masted schooner

Bonavista is the largest two-masted schooner still sailing in Denmark. With nine sails and 375 square metres of sail area, it is an impressive sight in any harbour. On deck, the ship has been restored as closely as possible to its 1914 original, but below deck it has been modernised for practical use.

3.

Built for the Atlantic Ocean

The Bonavista was built to cross the North Atlantic when transporting dried cod from Newfoundland. Since then, the ship has sailed the length and breadth of the Baltic Sea, changed its name three times and come close to leaving Denmark, until the National Museum rescued and restored it from top to bottom between 2008 and 2019.
